On Wednesday, October 20th at the Library, I held a training for volunteer tutors serving adult literacy learners in our area. Program Coordinators and tutors from three literacy agencies were in attendance: Project CARE at Morton College, Literacy Volunteers of Western Cook County, and School on Wheels.
The topic of the training was "Using Adult Literacy Materials." Tutors and program coordinators learned about the 4 types of adult literacy materials: published, learner-written, real-world, and tutor-produced. The new Literacy Center was showcased, which has recently been funded by an American Dream Starts @ your library® grant through the generosity of the American Library Association and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
